Quality Control in Scrapyards: Best Practices for Ensuring Product Quality for Car Parts
For more than two decades, we at A.S.A.P. Spares have not only been passionate about selling top-quality new and used auto parts from our scrapyard, but we are equally ardent about the environment, responsible recycling and the safe disposal of hazardous materials. This mantra is cemented in our name and reputation as one of the leading spare parts dealers in South Africa.
This is wonderful news for both our clients and environmentalists alike, but how do we utilise this mantra and convert it to ensure product quality in our car parts? The professionals at A.S.A.P. Spares explain how we control quality in our scrapyard in five simple steps:
1) Quality Control in Our Scrapyard Begins with Buying Parts
We pride ourselves on every part we sell, and our name is represented as it leaves our premises. This means that we only purchase the best stock from private individuals, reputable public auctions and salvage yards and other trusted sources. The first inspection is where our quality control begins. We only invest in quality stock right from the beginning, and we would rather walk away from a bargain than sell substandard parts.
2) The Stripping Process is as Important as Our Storage Process
Once we have ensured that all the vehicle paperwork is in order, our skilled, experienced team of vehicle strippers begins by draining all hazardous fluids and storing them for responsible disposal. They remove the battery and any other potentially dangerous materials for testing or disposal. Only then would they proceed to remove the mechanical parts. Electronic units like computer boxes, radios, electric window units and mechanisms and more are then removed for testing.
All damaged auto parts are removed and set aside. Damaged panels are stored in one area, while broken glass will be relocated to another. Unusable ferrous and non-ferrous metals are set aside for responsible recycling. Our recycling processes are strictly managed from the moment the items are removed until they are sold to our reputable, trusted partners within the appropriate recycling arenas.
3) First Impressions Last
We at A.S.A.P. Spares have made it our business to ensure that our clients leave with only the best quality auto spares from our scrapyard. Following the removal of all damaged parts, our specialist spare parts professionals inspect every remaining item. They are further sorted into groups, classified according to those that will be stored outside and those that will be held undercover. Electronics are tested and spares that do not pass our specific A.S.A.P. Spares inspection will be sent for recycling. Parts that do pass will be neatly sorted and shelved in our undercover section which will greet our clients upon arrival.
4) Presentation Replaces Position in the Scrapyard Industry
What position is to the property industry, presentation is to the pre-owned auto parts industry. When our customers visit our outdoor storage yard, they will always find it neat, tidy and organised with our salvaged units easy to access. This is one of the many reasons why we receive new referral clients regularly and our loyal clients keep returning to us.
5) Best Quality at Best Prices
We search the countryside, far and wide, for quality stock so you don’t have to. Since we opened our doors in 2001, our mission has been to provide you with high-quality, original used spares and new, brand-approved OEM parts at competitive prices. Our quality-controlled stock and cost-effective solutions are only exceeded by our outstanding service. If we don’t stock it, we will find it for you. This makes us your one-stop, quality-assured auto parts shop.
